NWLDC balanced budget for 2025/26
On Thursday 20 February, North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) councillors approved a balanced budget for the coming year.

Key parts of the budget include:
2.5% council tax increase for district council services
Increase in some fees and charges to help with the cost of providing services
£9.5 million to be invested in one-off projects across the district, including
Capital investments contained within the budget are taken from grants or from reserves
NWLDC has a healthy pot of reserves, built up from the business rates we have collected over a number of years
Business rates are the specific taxes paid by businesses in the district. These rates are collected by local authorities, with around half being paid to government and the rest retained locally to pay for council services
Your council tax increase explained

The NWLDC 2.5% increase will see most households in the district paying an additional £4.07 or less a year for district council services

This figure does not include the other portions of the council tax bill, which are allocated to Leicestershire County Council, The Police and Crime Commissioner for Leicestershire, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, special expense areas and town and parish councils.

These other organisations have increased their council tax by different amounts too, to help fund the public services they provide.

Although it’s NWLDC who sends you the bill and collects your council tax, the money you pay is distributed to all of the organisations above.
