I am writing to inform you of our upcoming training session to recruit domestic abuse ambassadors in the district. We are launching a community project called ‘Change that Lasts’ and are looking for residents to become ‘domestic abuse ambassadors’.
Communities are often the first to know about abuse which is taking place and can act as the ‘gate openers’ for people needing to seek support. Victims of domestic abuse are also more likely to confide in people they know and trust. Friends and family are also often the first to notice that something isn’t quite right. However, a lack of understanding and confidence can make people unsure of how to respond when someone finds the courage to disclose what is happening to them. By equipping local people with a greater understanding of domestic abuse and how to respond, it will enable them to take an active role in helping victims to access support for themselves and their families.
Those who sign up will attend a two-day virtual training course to be held via Microsoft Teams on Monday 3rd & Monday 10th of February 2025, which is being delivered by Women’s Aid. This will give people the knowledge and skills to talk about domestic abuse and to know what support services are available.
If you are interested or know someone who may be interested, please get in touch with me for further information and to register your interest, as spaces are limited.
