A small number of runners (around 100 in total) will be passing through sections of the National Forest Way footpath within the parish on Saturday 6th June, as part of the National Forest Way Ultra.
Participants will be well spread out along the route, rather than travelling together as a single group, and will simply be using the existing public footpath network. All runners will be instructed to remain strictly on the designated public paths and to be courteous to other path users and local residents at all times.
The event is a UK Athletics–affiliated race, and they have obtained an official race permit from the Trail Running Association.
To help guide runners along the correct route, you may notice some small, discreet temporary course markings along sections of the footpath in the days around the event. These may include:
Small A5 directional signs
Surveyor ribbon
Small reflective route tags
These markers are used solely to ensure runners remain on the correct public paths, avoid getting lost, and prevent accidental trespass onto private land, helping maintain safety for both participants and local residents. All route markings will be in place for a maximum of 36 hours.
There will also have tail runners at the back of the event who will be removing route markings behind the final participant. As they go, they will also sweep the trail for any litter to ensure the route is left exactly as it was found.
They are also currently looking for local volunteers to help with the event. If anyone in the parish community may be interested in assisting, we would be delighted to hear from you.
